What if the Hokey Pokey is what it’s all about?

You remember that kids song about put your right hand in, put your right hand out, put your right hand in and you shake it all about, do the Hokey Pokey and turn yourself about – that’s what it’s all about.  Well, it’s interesting to note that no one knows what the song is a bout or exactly how it got started.  There is very little to no evidence to each of the many claims, including a very dubious anti-Catholic origin.

Anyway, I was watching an old tv show called Babylon 5, and in the episode an alien discovers the song and works for days to figure out what it means.  He concludes that is doesn’t mean anything.  Which was a nice bit of comic relief, but it also got me thinking.  It is like the Hokey Pokey is the way that secular people tend to look at the world, you know.

Hear me out.  You do a bunch of repetitive non-sense and then spin around and start it all over again.  Then you claim that all of the non-sense you are doing is what it – life, is all about.  It’s actually rather sad when you think about it.

Isn’t it wonderful that we don’t have to think that way?  Isn’t it wonderful that we know that there is more to life than our jobs and all the other nonsense we bring into our lives?  Isn’t it wonderful that we can dance our own Hokey Pokey and know – That not what it’s all about!

Peace be with you.
