Hey guys, welcome to Following Him!
Matthew 4:2 – 11
Temptation of Christ
Jesus wonders in the wilderness alone for forty days. You walk your 5 miles a day for forty days before moving on. Don’t worry about falling behind, this isn’t a race. Plus, you can pick up right where you left off in 40 days. During this time contemplate what that meant to wonder in the desert. What are you tempted with? Can you imagine having within your power the ability to meet your every need, every whim, but not doing it because it would not be right? You might even consider a “fast” during this time. You can do a traditional fast, or fast from something specific like your smart phone, your coffee, your shopping, things that perhaps take your focus off God and use this time to put your life back into balance. Bonus Miles: 200
Matthew 4:2 – 11
When he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry afterward. The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
(Just as Satan had tempted the first people saying that the Fruit from the Tree of Knowledge was good food.)
But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’”
(Bread is not Life. God is Life.)
Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, ‘He will put his angels in charge of you.’ and, ‘On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don’t dash your foot against a stone.’”
(Satan did this thinking he could tempt Jesus to test God as the First Children had thinking that they would not die.)
Jesus said to him, “Again, it is written, ‘You shall not test the Lord, your God.’”
(Because God wants people to accept His Love. Love doesn’t have to test. Love knows.)
Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory. He said to him, “I will give you all of these things, if you will fall down and worship me.”
(Satan tempted Him with this, just as He tempted the first people with being like God. To be envious of what they are not instead of being joyous at what they are.)
Then Jesus said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.’”
(The wanting power and forgetting that you are complete with God, is what caused the downfall of man. If you love God you don’t need anything else.)
Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and served him.
Enjoy your walk.
Peace be with you.
