There are three levels of spirituality. To think, to believe or to know. The first level is to think. The second is to believe and the third is to know. It needs to go in this order as well. Some people try to skip ahead and get into trouble. They have blind faith. Blind faith is easily shattered. One little piece of evidence to the contrary and out goes their faith. You need to think first. True faith can only come from the truth. I want you to have true faith.
The first level is to think. This is a product of the mind. You can think that something is true. You can research. You can verify. You can make a conscious decision. For instance: Jesus existed. There non-Biblical historical records. These can be referenced and verified. Therefore, given the information, you think there was a Jesus.
The second level is to believe. This is the product of the heart. You can believe that something is true. You can feel it in your heart. You can have faith. For instance: Jesus is the Son of God. There is no evidence outside of the Bible. There is nothing but you gut telling you it’s true. Therefore, with this feeling, you believe Jesus is the Son of God.
Most people stop at belief. You ask almost anyone who is a Christian and they say that they have faith, that they believe. But belief means to accept something as true, and faith means to trust that something is true. I want more for you. God wants more for you.
I want you to know.
The third level is to know. This is the product of the soul. You can think something is true. You can believe something is true. Or you can KNOW something is true. Deep down stake your life on it know. To know Jesus is God, to know that Jesus died for your sins, is a feeling of oneness with God.
There are things you know. You know that you locked the door when you left the house this morning. You remember doing it. Would you stake your life on it? If someone said you would die if that door was actually unlocked, would you know it then? No. You don’t. Even though you know it, when it comes to staking your life on it, you come to find you only think it or believe it. I want you to know there is a God and He loves you. I want you to know that Jesus died for you and rose from the dead. I want you to know that God is Love.
How do you get from belief to know? Shift your mindset.
Jesus said “In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.” John 14:20
This is HUGE! Everything in one compact sentence. Now, if you believe in Jesus, then you have to by default believe what He said. Let’s take a look at the first part. He is in the Father. Well we believe that there is One God, so only logical that He is in the Father. That’s just reasonable thinking. Then He says that you are in Him. That is a matter of belief. God created us. He gave us a soul. So we have to be a part of Him. If you believe in Him then of course you are in Him. Then this is the crucial part, “and I am in you.” God lives within us. We are already one with God! We always have been! There is no separation – not anymore! God is within us!
You can believe that, but how do you know? Practice.
Be still and know that I am God.
Reach down deep. Close your eyes. Take three long, slow, deep breaths. Focus on God within you. Feel the Love that is God flowing over you, through you. Spend time knowing that you are One with God.
Practice it until you know. It might take a long time, it might not. Just be still and you will know that He is God.
Peace be with you.
