Satan is NOT the Ruler of This World!

The other day I heard someone refer to Satan as the ruler of this world.  Now, I’ve heard that before and that just doesn’t set right with me.  So, of course, I looked it up.

There are several places in the Old Testament, including Isaiah and Job. But as we talked about earlier Jesus changed the world in more than just one way, see “Another Way Jesus Changed The World” post.  So, let’s look at the New Testament.

“You were made alive when you were dead in transgressions and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience” – Ephesians 2:1 – 2

“Even if our Good News is veiled, it is veiled in those who perish; in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them.” – 2 Corinthians 4:3 – 4

We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” – 1 John 5:19

Okay, so that is where it comes from.  Uhm… I have a problem with that.  Jesus didn’t say that.  The disciples, specifically Paul and John, did.  They should have known better, because Jesus told them:

Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die. – John 12:31 – 33

So… Doesn’t it make sense that He meant what He said?  Satan is cast out of this world with Jesus’ death.  Satan is therefore no longer the ruler of this world.  End of story.

Now, are people still doing evil things?  Of course, we still have freewill.  Everyone will choose what they choose – we can’t blame Satan anymore.  There is no scapegoat.  You choose to do evil all on your own.

But Satan still influences people though, right?

Influence is one thing, ruling is another.  Advertisers influence you; they do not make your decisions.  I’ve said it before and I will say it again –

It is time for the Children of God to grow up and take responsibility for our own actions.

Peace be with you.
