Waning Gibbous – Day 20

The moon is fading more and more with each passing day.  Yet, we don’t usually see the moon.  We work all day, come home eat and go to sleep.  We don’t stop to look at the moon.  We are too busy. Our lives are so very busy.  Busy doing… nothing.  Now, I like to tune out and watch a show after a long day but that is not what I am talking about.  When we think of sloth we think of laziness, being a slacker.

The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor. – Proverbs 21: 25

But Sloth is something far more insidious than mere laziness.  Sloth is also mindless busyness.  You are spiritually asleep while you are busy with so many things to distract you from your life’s purpose.  We have our hobbies and our toys, our vacations and our noise.  But all of these pass times tend to become our lives.  We need lives, not lifestyles!  We need to slow down.  Think about what we are doing and why we are doing it.  Are we working towards our destiny or are we just being lazy and filling our time with things to drown out the calling of our hearts?

Ask and it shall be given you.  Seek, and you will find. – Luke 11:19

Sloth can be both spiritual and/or physical laziness.  It is laziness turning away from what we need to do and it is busyness to turn towards other things instead of what we are destined to do.  Either way the solution is the same.  We must kindle the fire within us and burn.

I came to throw fire on the earth. I wish it were already kindled. – Luke 12:49

Think of fire.  Candlelight, bonfires, campfires and the sun itself, all fire sheds light and warmth.  The miraculous fires shows us more than the physical light and warmth, but spiritual light and warmth as well.  Almost every culture lights candles, or fires to show the fire of spiritual life and light.  Fires of the bonfires of celebrations.  We light up the darkest times with fire.

Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit. – Acts 2:3

Fires of the Holy Spirit burns within you.  This fire burns with an intensity that does not consume but grows.  On this waning gibbous, feed the fire within you, let it grow so that you can be the person you always thought you could be.  A kinder, more loving, compassionate person is waiting for you to allow the fires of the Holy Spirit to grow.

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28

Stoke that fire!  Burn off your Sloth.  Do what is right.  Pray and meditate.  Burn with the white hot passion of a million suns.  Be the Fire!

Please join me in prayer.

“I come to you, my God, with a grateful heart.  Thank You, O Lord for surrounding me with your unconditional Love and Divine Acceptance.  Thank You, O Lord for showering me with all your sacred blessings.  Please open my heart so that I am truly grateful for all that you have done, are doing and will do, now and forever.  I am grateful for the fires of the Holy Spirit that burns within me.  I am grateful that I can open my heart so that it will grow, burning away all that I don’t want and building and strengthening my bond with you.  I am grateful for Your Forgiveness.  I am grateful for Your Love.  For all these things – Thank You, O Lord.  Amen.”

Please meditate and listen to God.

Peace be with you.
