One more night and the Moon will be full. As we bask in the almost complete glow of God’s miraculous Moon you can’t help but notice the one sliver of darkness still left and think of piety. Okay, maybe piety isn’t the first thing that comes to mind but hear me out. We love this waxing gibbous even in its imperfection, just as God still loves us in our imperfection. The gift of Piety is the gift that allows us to feel God’s Love for us and to be able to love Him back.
Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment.” – Luke 10: 27
A child once asked me, almost in fear, defiantly in guilt, what happens if you don’t love God with all your heart? I asked her “Do you mean because you love your mom and dad?” She looked even more guilty and just nodded. I told her that since God is Love, to love her parents was spreading God’s Love. What better way of Loving God with all of your heart can there be but loving others?
To love God with all of your heart you must love others. To love God with all of your soul, you must return that love. To love God with all of your mind you must use that love to serve God. Piety is to love and serve God. People confuse piety with being some kind of zealot zombie slave. I don’t know where that ever came from. Serving God is a byproduct of Loving, isn’t it? When you love someone, don’t you do things for them out of that love? Serving God is not something you do as a slave or as a servant but as a friend, as a loved one, as the one you love the most. That is what the gift of piety means. It means God has given us the ability to love.
Please join me in prayer.
“I come to you, my God, with a grateful heart. Thank You, O Lord for surrounding me with your unconditional Love and Divine Acceptance. Thank You, O Lord for showering me with all your sacred blessings. Please open my heart so that I am truly grateful for all that you have done, are doing and will do, now and forever. I am grateful for the gift of piety. I am grateful to be able to love. I am grateful that I can spread Your Love. I am grateful for this bond that we have together and ask that you open my heart to you so that it can be stronger. I am grateful for Your Love. For all these things – Thank You, O Lord. Amen.”
Please meditate and listen to God.
Peace be with you.
